What is vehicle modification certification?
Vehicle modification certification is required from a recognised engineer to ensure any changes, repairs or non-standard aspects of your vehicle are deemed safe and suitable to be on the road.
You might need certification if you’ve made repairs to your vehicle structure, if you’ve changed the chassis, added a towing component, intend to register a classic car or imported a foreign vehicle. A recognised engineer will make sure that:
- any repairs meet the manufacturers guidelines and/or Australian Standards 1554 (Structural Steel Welding)
- the protection characteristic and strength of your vehicle is at the required level to help protect the driver and passengers
- the vehicle is suitable to be driven on Australian roads.
As recognised engineers with the Motor Vehicle Registry, we can guide you on any repairs you need to make, who can make those repairs and what certification is needed.
